IBOPE Inteligência Poll: 35% Expect to Spend Less for Holidays
More Plan to Shop Online Than In-Store
UTICA, NY--An early binge of holiday gift shopping may not continue, as 35% of U.S. adults expect to spend less this year than in other years. Meanwhile one-half say their spending will be about the same as other years and just 7% expect to spend more.
These results are from an IBOPE Inteligência interactive poll conducted from Nov. 23-28. It also found that three quarters (74%) will be shopping online, and that more people expect to make the bulk of their holiday purchases online (34%) as opposed to at retail stores (26%).
Convenience is by far the top reason why those who will mostly shop online will do so, while seeing and comparing items is the chief motivator of those who prefer retail stores.
